I have obeserved that some religions will sing highly emotive songs before or during their main "service".
This is (so far) always a one off song and then "back to business" and I wondered "What If" the really "happy" part of these songs could be literally condensed into 1 specific verse and repeated for several minutes (or as long as it took) to elicit extremely powerful emotive states towards "God"?
When I was a child the song by Sister Janet Mead came out and despite having been in a catholic orphanage for approx 3 years, I was engulfed by this song and used to repeat to ad infinitum.
I found that I was often in a euphoric state of mind and these days I am sure that I would have been put on some kind of medication for being happy.
Many years later I hear the "Nirvana Shatakam" song and immediately fell in love with this as a mantra and it is from the Nirvana Skatakam mantra that the Mano Buddhi mantra (this page) is derived.
The "Mano Buddhi" mantra is extremely powerful in stimulating gamma waves in your brain which greatly increases your Spatial awareness (this is good).
Most people pray and meditate by "Rote". Repeating words dispassionately.
This is rather sad because while they are being so emotionally "blank", they are missing out on the truly elevated experiences which they may have if they combine their words with positive emotions.
In the past, I have used many "melodies" to elevate myself both emotionally and spiritually before meditation and prayer.
Sometimes I was so high up (**) that my melody became my mantra.
** I do not - nor have I ever taken drugs (except painkillers) so when I say high up, I am talking about spiritual ascension and not herbals.
No Music Please ↟↟
I suggest that IF you do not know these songs, that you play the music and learn them first - so that you have the melody in your head - then say them without the music and just in your mind.
This is because the music will distract your focus and cause you to miss out on wonderful experiences which you may ONLY experience IF you have total focus.
The following are some "songs" or should I say, "Melodies" (parts of songs), which you can also use as a "pre-mantra or sub-mantra" before and during your main mantra or prayer.
A sub-mantra is where you say your main mantra and to help placate the infamous "Monkey Mind" you use a second or third mantra to help establish greater mental control.
 | Most people do not know this, but in advanced meditation, it is possible to say, think and visualize up to 5 mantras at the same time. | |
NOTE: you should NOT play these as songs or music out loud while praying or meditating - HOWEVER - they can be sung by you before meditation or prayer AND they can also be repeated mentally and silently by you while you "also" use (or say) your main mantra or prayer.
Saying the "song" of you choice before meditation or prayer, is designed to put you in the right mood, spiritually, emotionally and mentally before your meditation or prayer and thus help elevate your overall "intent".
"Intent" is a word most people have heard of but they have no idea of its power when spiritually activated.
About The Melodies ↟↟
I have found that these Melodies help people into a more sublime state of mind if the person is truly seeking a connection with The Divine.
TIP: You should try each one of these and see which one resonates the strongest within your heart.
Download the short version and play on your computer using the LOOP feature.
How To Use
These are very easy to use.
Select which "song" you wish to use and Repeat as a mantra for at least several minutes before praying or meditating.
However, if you have time, may I suggest that your repeat the song of your choice for as long as it takes to activate your emotions, and then start your meditation or prayer.
A simple trick I use is to think of how much I my wife and this sets me off very quickly.
What Is The Purpose Of These Melodies?
The purpose of these songs, is to help you fill your heart with Joy so that your heart is truly open when you pray or meditate.
How do I know if I am "Praying Properly"?
A Secret Teaching ↟↟
I was taught that the Secret meaning of "Waterfall Meditation" was to visualize and experience pure joy flow over and through you. (not water)
Sitting under an actual (water) waterfall is potentially deadly with rocks and logs often coming down with the water. These rocks can be small or large and they are tougher than your head.
Another danger is "flash flooding" upstream which can cause the waterfall to grow into a deadly force within minutes and if you are in a deep state of meditation, you may not notice in time.
From my personal experience, both the Mano Buddhi melody and the Shalom Aleichem melody stimulate Gamma Waves and both can quickly help you get into the Waterfall mind set if you can connect with a higher form of Love and merge this (without ego or desire) with the Creator.
Never Use Metal Songs
If you select another "riff" (song / song / melody / verse), then it should be focused on The Creator and not just music or else your mind will not be attuned to higher spiritual energy.
If you do not like the Hebrew, then may I suggest the Vedic: Mano Buddhi melody?
Never use popular songs or metal songs and especially never use metal songs as these actually cause complete disharmony with your aura. +
Christians: "The Lords Prayer"
This was one of my favorite songs which I was a teen because I was told that this was the only "prayer" that celebrated "God" and even specifically that not even the "Jews" had such a prayer.
Years later I found out that this was completely false information and that not only did the "Jews" have a "prayer" but there was 18 of them written by "Ezra" the scribe and that these 18 prayers (the Shmoneh Esre AKA: Amida is actually now 19 prayers (short version)) were written around 2,500 years ago. +
The word "Amida" (עמידה) is derived from the Hebrew root word to Stand (La'ah'mod לַעֲמוֹד).
The Lyrics
Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Repeat as a mantra for at least several minutes before praying or meditating.
 | However, if you have time, may I suggest that your repeat the song of your choice for as long as it takes to activate your emotions, and then start your meditation or prayer. | |
The Lords Prayer "Short Version" or the "Long Version".
Vedic: "Mano Buddhi"
Notice the difference between when she was chanting and when she stopped?
This shows that physical vocalization creates THE vibration which then affects the physical body and as such, physicality itself.
This is also a lesson that we should "enunciate" the mantra or prayer as succinctly as possible. Because if we mumble, then the vibrational frequency is not calibrated correctly.
The "Mano Buddhi Mantra" is an extraordinary mantra, and has been shown to elicit extended "Gamma Waves" in the brain.
As of 2025, Gamma Waves are considered the highest form of brain wave activity and most people typically attain this level for a few seconds only and then they revert back to a lower level.
People who practice "Mano Buddhi" meditation, have been shown to be able to not only attain Gamma Wave levels of meditation, but these "episodes" may last for the duration of their meditation or if people have been doing meditation for decades, they oftem maintain Gamma Waves even when not meditating.
This is a level of consciousness above that which most people are completely ignorant of.
One of the effects from this is your "sense of presence" is greatly increased.
| Maṇo buddhi ahan'kara chit'tani na'huṃ, chi'da'nanda ru'pah shivo-hum shivo-hum. |
| |
| मनोबुद्ध्यहङ्कार चित्तानि नाह चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् |
This is a "soft" letter A (ah) and not a hard letter A (AE).
Repeat as a mantra for at least several minutes before praying or meditating.
However, if you have time, may I suggest that your repeat the song of your choice for as long as it takes to activate your emotions, and then start your meditation or prayer.

Be Still (Neutral)
"Be Still" is a song by Terry Oldfield and Soraya Saraswati (+ Mike Oldfield).
For those who may not understand the implications of this melody, it expresses a common Vedic theme which is to be in the place of No-Mind (perfectly calm mind) so that you can connect with The Creator.
Frozen in time
The verse "Be still and know that I am" comes from 2 main sources.
Source 1
The one I was first taught was from a Vedic source by Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879-1950) who taught that centering yourself (being still) was the path to God.
Much of his philosophy was based on the Advaita Vedanta.
The "true" Self is pure existence, consciousness, and bliss because it is a reflection of the Divine Creator.
This means that it is not the "thoughts" associated with what the "I" wants in the physical world.
It is the unchanging "I" that remains constant through waking, dreaming, meditation and deep sleep.
However, the "I" becomes problematic when the body and the ego supercede the soul.
If the "I" is part of the Universal Consciousness, then it becomes the "We" but there are 2 problems with the "WE".
1) is that "We" implies plurality - which is a false assumption.
2) is that IF the "We" is part of the "Mind Of God", then the "We" also does not exist.
This - in theory - should leave us with "Unity".
So the next question should be, "what is the path of this Unity?"
The answer to this question depends upon which "Cycle" ("Generation" ) we are in.
Sri Ramana considered silence (Mauna (मौनम्) to be the highest and most potent form of discipline, representing the state where the ego of the "I" is completely dissipated.
So what is the solution?
One solution is to be where you are at the time you are there which is something most people fail at because they are always chasing something physical or emotional.
For most people, the "Mano Buddhi Mantra" will be as close as they can get to this state of "Being Still".
Source 2
Book Of Psalms "PsalmsEN 46:11" (or 10 if you Do Not include the "For the conductor" verse).
The words "Be Still" refer to both mind and body but more importantly, when you have mastered this technique, you will be able to physically move and still be in "Be Still" mode.
For most people, this "state" can only be achieved after many 10's of thousands of hours meditating - however, you can expedite this be starting off with "Controlled Meditation" to begin with or even upgrading to Controlled Meditation if you are currently meditating.
Then combine this controlled meditation method with the Mano Buddhi meditation technique.
- "Mano Buddhi Study"

- "Mano Buddhi Mantra"

Perhaps the easiest example of this is found in ninja movies where the "ninja" is in a meditative sleep and yet wakes up when danger approaches.
Once you have mastered Advanced "Controlled Meditation" , the next step is to focus on the steps to achieve "Blank Meditation".
Blank meditation is one of the steps before you get to the place of "Mind Of No Mind".
Some teachings claim that this is not a complete absence of thinking, but rather a state of being fully conscious. In other words, a state of super-consciousness.
A tree leaf blows in the wind and you "are" the leaf.
Something moves in the forest (bush) and you are aware of this movement, size, shape and distance and when you get really good at this, you can also tell what kind of animal and how many.
I used to use this technique when I was meditating in the Sinai and Judean deserts and on at least 1 occasion it saved my life when some bedouin (badawi) tried to sneak up on me one night.
I have also used this technique when I was living in the bush for over 5 years.
However, it is also a precursor for your potential ability to connect with The Divine because it shows you that your "mind" is much more powerful than you think.
The Melody
The "short version" is here and the original long version of "Be Still" is here.
Lyrics - first verse
- Be still and know that I am, Be still and know
- Be still and know that I am, Be still and know
- Be still, Be still, Be still and know
- Be still, Be still, Be still and know
This is for people who may not be religious but who are seeking some kind of spiritual connection.
For those who are intrinsically spiritual, this song will instantly resonate with you, just like the "Nirvana Shatakam" mantra. (even if you do not understand the words or meaning)
Gates Of Heaven
This is another simple but beautiful and inspiring melody which many people use to transcend the mundane.
Sometimes you need something with extra sparkle.
There are 2 versions of this - with 1 being Sephardic - and the other Ankanazic and you will notice that many of the words sound quite different.
The version I link to here is the Sephardic version.
Below are 2 versions of the same chorus.
The first one is slower and a it strained and the second one is overly upbeat. What I do is blend the 2 versions together in my head.
This is a great intro before you start meditating or praying IF you are not having a good day.
Note Du Jour
Some versions of this melody in Hebrew will spell Shamayim with 2 Yods שמיים and some with just 1 yod שמים.
While both may be seen as correct, I prefer the single Yod שמים because it directly connects this (IMO) with the first level of Creation as seen in Genesis 1:1.
