Mycorrhizal Innoculants, Top Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculants

Most people know what "Mycorrhizal Fungi" is but they do not know about JADAM so this is why I have included this page.

You can easily make a "Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculant" at home and while it is easy to do so using nature, if I may suggest that you consider buying some to start with.

Otherwise it will take you weeks (and in cooler or colder weather, even months) to get started.

While you can speed up the growth process by adding the right "food" for the Mycorrhizal Fungi - it is also important to note that over-feeding can cause "some" micro-organisms in the soil to hibernate. (this is bad)

The Simple Method ↟↟

You can use most commercial grains like barley, rice, buckwheat, wheat, spelt, oats, sorghum, amaranth and even corn.

You can even use wheat bran or rice bran.

Method

Most people prefer to boil the "grains" so that they do not germinate.

This method is very simple.

Ingredients

  1. 1Kg (2lbs) of any grain listed above.
  2. Large steaming saucepan
  3. Sieve
  4. Large serving tray (or large plate)
  5. Spray bottle
  6. Large sealable glass container
  7. Time

Steps

Steam the grain you chose for at least 20 minutes. See STEAM TIP Mycorrhizal Innoculants, see STEAM TIP below below.

Let it cool down

Mix 2 - 3 tablespoons of "Store Bought" Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculant into 1 pint (500mls) warm (NOT hot) water and add 1 tablespoon of corn starch (or other starch) and shake well.

Spread out your moist seeds on a large serving tray and spray with the mixture.

Put the inoculated grain into the glass jar and repeat until all of your grains are coated and inside the glass container.

Close the lid tightly and leave in a DARK warm location for 7 days.

*** Store in a dark place completely out of any light.

Burp the container every 2 or 3 days in case there is any gas build-up. Burping means undo the lid until loose and then tighten again. (that easy)

Check after 7 days and you should start to see some white cotton like threads.

Wait another 7 - 14 days and then add some filtered water (which has 2 tablespoons of brown sugar added to the water) to your glass container and strain off using a sieve.

500 mls (1 pint) should make approx 10 liters (20 pints) of active inoculant.

Store in the fridge.

Reset

Reset your glass container by draining off excess water and then repeating the process listed above.

Other Ways?

Yes, there are other ways, but this is fast and clean and concise.

Please check out the other links, especially the JADAM link.

Steam Tip ↟↟

You can use a large saucepan with 25% water and put a cereal bowl inside half filled with grain (do not fill to top).

Place the grain bowl inside the saucepan bring the water in the saucepan to a boil.

Place the lid ON the saucepan and wait 20 - 30 minutes. Then start the "spray" process as described above and repeat until all of your grain is inoculated.

*** Store in a dark place completely out of any light.

Sterilize ? Yes Or No? ↟↟

If you are using "wildcrafted" growth media like leaves then you have a few things to consider.

On the JADAM page I explain how to dramatically increase your chosen soil biome in just a few weeks.

1) Most Important is where you get your "sample" from.

Is it near a public roadway or is it located in an area where there are "Invasive Plants" which may be sprayed by the local Council (or contractor)?

Is the leaf litter

Are the plants you wish to grow Ecto or Endo Mycorrhizal Fungi compatible?

You need to get soil and leaf litter from open forest away from any kind of human traffic.

Check out the page for comprehensive information.

PLAN B

Plan B is to buy the (smallest amount possible is fine), and then reproduce this in volume yourself.

Warnings ↟↟

If you are going to use "solids" like wood shavings, wood chips, manures etc, please be aware that wood will quickly absorb nitrogen from the soil which will stunt the growth not only of your Mycorrhizal Inoculants (fungi), but also your plants will be stunted and the fruit or vegetables they produce will be of lower quality, size and nutrition.

Other things which cause these effects are Charcoal, excessive Diatomaceous Earth and Zeolite.

Many people think that adding charcoal to their soil automatically creates BioChar (Terra Preta), but this is not true and in fact it is detrimental to the soil.

It is a different process to activate charcoal so that it is beneficial to your soil and I cover how to do this on the page.

Instead of these negative "media", you may like to try "Bran" (wheat bran, rice bran etc) as your grow media.
