I actually owned and ran an Organics Business for almost 5 years, so I do speak from personal experience about this subject.
Growing hydroponically may be detrimental to your health as we see from 
FYI: cognitive decline has very little to do with age and everything to do with nutrition.

These include tomatoes, strawberries, lettuce, cucumbers, spinach, bok choy, arugula, mizuna (Japanese mustard greens), komatsuna (Japanese spinach), watercress and a whole heap of weird Japanese vegetables that I have never learned to pronounce.
I could easily write many, many pages about the "issues" involved in hydroponics but I will finish here by saying that plants require a more natural and healthier biome if they are to be used as your primary food source - because there is nothing else you can use anyway despite what Sh-Allopath(et)ic medicine doctors (waiters) will tell you regarding natural medicine.
