What Are Trigger Words?
Simply put, Trigger Words are words you say - which act as a kind of password - and allow you to drop down deeper into your meditative state.
This can save you lots of time in your pre-meditation stages.
How To Use Trigger Words
There are at least 3 ways to use Trigger Words
- Meditation
- Relaxation (de-stress)
- Hypnosis
Firstly - DO NOT USE your computer password.
2) DO NOT USE your Trigger Word (or phrase) while driving.
3) This word should NOT be the mantra you want to use because it defeats the entire purpose of using Trigger Words.
Let's Start
Select a random word plus a 5 or 6 letter combination of the alphabet. Write this down and leave in your meditation room.
It is strongly recommended that you do not use the first 5 letters of the alphabet since these are the most commonly used letters.
One example would be LOVE HIJKL and this may also be used in reverse like this LKJIH LOVE.
You can also use any other positive affirmation word as well.
Next
After you have selected your "Trigger Word", take 3 slow deep breaths.
The next thing to do is say this (aloud to begin with), and then start your meditation.
Every time before you begin meditating, use this Trigger Word "before" your meditation.
Eventually this will build what is described as Muscle (mental association) Memory.
When you are doing the 3 slow deep breaths, visualize yourself moving from your brain area down to your Solar Plexus area.
This is located approximately between your belly button and your central rib cage.
The Goal
The goal here is to associate your Trigger Word with your meditation so that when you say the Trigger Word, you mind automatically goes into meditation mode.
SUMMARY
- Sit in a relaxed position, with your back as straight as you can.
- Do your 3 slow deep breaths and visualize your mind going down to your Solar Plexus.
- Say your Trigger Word.
- Start meditating.
- Enjoy.
- That Simple
- It really is that simple.
You are creating a bridge between saying the words and an advanced meditative state.
Added Bonus
Another Added Bonus to using Trigger Words is that you can use these for relaxation.
This is particularly useful in stressful situations we encounter as adults - as well as - and especially - for students.
This is slightly different to the above technique.
- Sit comfortably. ("Sukhasana")

- Take your First slow deep breath.
- Say your trigger word.
- Second slow deep breath: Start counting down from 10 - 0. You can also visualize yourself going down 10 levels on or in a lift, elevator, escalator.
- Third slow deep breath: visualize your mind going to your favorite place, warm and safe.
So long as you visualize a beautiful sunny day, then this can be anywhere, a beach, a waterfall, a forest, anywhere, even your home. Literally anywhere you feel safe and warm.
Rain People: If you are a rain person, see yourself inside a house or apartment which is warm and safe as you watch the rain falling through a window.
If you are having trouble focusing, try and remember the associated smells of your favorite place while you are breathing.
After a little as a few weeks practice, you should typically find that you are much more relaxed within 20-30 seconds.
NOTE that this is not as powerful as meditation but it may help save your life and in most cases, I have often seen people destress very quickly.
NOTE 2: You need to practice this at least 10 times a day for the first several weeks. Several == 3 or 4.
