Introduction
Most people think that breathing is breathing and that they are separate entities who are insulated from other people - for whatever reasons.
The truth is that we are all connected and there is one thing which can enhance this connection and that is your breath.
It is not just people or animals that are connected, the entire universe is connected and even the most bizarre things - that will surprize you - are connected. Check this "short video" out. Sometimes it just takes time to see it.
Below are some simple "Synchronizing " breathing exercises which you can do alone, with other people, or as a small or large group - and you will feel the calming difference within 5 - 10 breaths. Providing you are not on mind numbing drugs.
Physical Contacts
Not everyone is happy with physical contact with people of the opposite gender.
Male energy and Female energy are 2 distinct vibrations which people who are spiritually advanced can detect.
To get the most from your group meditation, you need to utilize the inherent tension between the male and female energies.
Think of it like Chi where you are merging Sky energy with Earth energy - click here and then press refresh to see several ways to do this visualization. .
Balance
Group meditation is (often) more beneficial at de-stressing members. If it is done properly.
Want to better organize your brain?
Synchronizing 1 Person
Synchronizing just 1 person is perhaps the hardest of all of the examples on this page.
However, it can be done.
Sitting down (or standing up) and wearing loose fitting clothes, start deep breathing, deep and slow.
These breaths should ideally be 10 seconds IN and 10 seconds OUT.
You need a minimum of 5 deep breaths, but 10 is better.
This should be done before meditation.
Really simple huh?
I have created this "10 Second Meditation Ping" for you to time your breathing.
Synchronizing 2 People
- You know someone well
- You do Not know someone well
- Very Large Groups
Option 1
1) Step 1 stand facing each other and gently embrace so that your chests are lightly touching.
Step 2 Both of you place both of your hands - palms flat - against the other persons shoulder blades. This is a very gentle hug position.
Step 3 Both of you, gently rest your chin or cheek on the other persons shoulder, then close your eyes.
Step 4 Slowly breath IN and OUT together, This must be done together.
Step 5 Each INHALE breath should be for at least 10 seconds and each OUT breath should also be 10 seconds. Use this "10 Second Meditation Ping" to help with your timing.
Do a minimum of 3 of these - but 5 is better - and 10 is even better than 5.
Step away from the other person, close your eyes and feel how relaxed your mind and body has become.
IF you have done this correctly, you will easily notice the difference.
Now it is time to immediately sit and start meditating.
Imagine how peaceful you may feel if you did this with a large group?
Keep using the "10 Second Meditation Ping" to synchronize your breathing as you meditate.
Option 2
If you do not know someone or there is some kind of male / female dynamic happening, try this instead.
Stand back to back so that your backs are "firmly" touching.
One person then holds the other persons wrists (not hands).
Both of you, close your eyes.
Slowly breath IN and OUT together, This must be done together.
Each IN breath should be for at least 10 seconds and each OUT breath should also be 10 seconds.
Do a minimum of 8 of these - but 10 is better.
Step away from the other person, close your eyes and feel how relaxed your body has become.
IF you have done this correctly, you will easily notice the difference.
Sit down and start your meditation.
Keep using the "10 Second Meditation Ping" to synchronize your breathing as you meditate.
Synchronizing a Small Group
All Friends
This will depend on how well you know each other.
IF you are all friends, start with Option 1 above.
Hugging and breathing race to face.
In this instance where the group is less than 10-12 people, you could "hug" everyone in the group if you wish.
Not all friends
In the instance where you are not all friends, start with Option 2 above.
Back to back.
Stand back to back, touching each other firmly, and follow the instructions as shown above in Option 2.
Preferred
It is preferred that you connect with someone of the opposite gender first == Synchronizing male + female energies, and then hug someone of the same gender if you like for "Round 2".
Try and alternate Male + Female, then Male + male
|or| Female + female - then back to male+female again, for each hug session.
Keep your breathing at 10 seconds for the entire group.
Keep using the "10 Second Meditation Ping" to synchronize your breathing as you meditate.
Synchronizing a Large Group
Again, this will depend on how well you know each other.
However, this time there is an extra step. See the end of this section.
Similar to the small groups system. But with a bonus ending.
If possible, it is preferred that you connect with someone of the opposite gender first == Synchronizing male + female energies.
Remember that this is a platonic hug - so you need to focus on your breathing.
Start At The Beginning
With your designated partner, move close to them so that your chests are touching and you can lean your head against them.
Now place the palms of your hands against their shoulder blades (upper back) and start doing very slow inhale and exhale breathing together.
When you inhale, they inhale and when you exhale, they exhale.
I have created this "10 Second Meditation Ping" so that you can inhale and exhale for 10 seconds per breath.
This may be difficult at first (especially) for smokers - so please persist.
Now, close your eyes and do 10 deep breaths, each INHALE and EXHALE should be "10 Seconds" .
Earth Energy + Sky Energy
Once you have finished the synchronized breathing together, you need to synchronize the group.
To do this most effectively, we are going to merge Earth and Sky (Chi) energies.
For this, we need the women (Earth) to form a circle inside the men's (Sky) circle.
The women face outwards towards their partner or designated male.
The men face inwards towards their partner or designated female.
Now you have 2 options for your hands.
Make sure that you all wash your hands before you start this.
- Option 1: Men join hands with men and women join hands with women.
- Option 2: Put your arms on the other persons shoulders (for both men and women).
Men are often reluctant to hold another mans hand so the shoulder option is a way to circumvent this issue.
Now the men and women move towards each other until they are physically touching (chests).
Now rest your heads on your partners shoulder or chest (depending on your height).
Start the "10 Second" ping and start breathing together "Inhale and Exhale" at the same time.
Do this for a minimum of 10 breaths IN and 10 breaths OUT (no more than 20 in early stages).
BTW: It is important to keep your eyes closed and focus 100% on your breathing.
If you want to play, then do so later after you go home.
Next
Next, adopt your meditation positions and start meditating together using the same mantra.
Sit in the same 2 circles with the women grounding the group as Earth energy and the men in the outside circle opposite their respective partner.
Keep the 10 second "ping" going so that you can time your mantra in unison for maximum effect.
Ascendant
If you want a higher level of meditation to occur, completely focus on 3 things.
- Mantra
- Breathing
- Focus (your eyes) to see the iridescent lights inside your mind
Blank
And if you want even higher levels of meditation, you need to completely clear your mind of all thoughts - "Blank Meditation".
Time Line
Just so that you know, I was taught that "true" meditation should consist of 3 x 2 hour sessions daily (every day).
Or 2 x 3 hours sessions.
However, since most people do not understand the benefits you get from such practices, it is recommended that you meditate for at least 45 - 60 minutes a day.
Your group meditation session should also be around 60 - 90 minutes.
As a group, you may also like to consider trying "The Golden Mantra" together.
I have included "The Golden Mantra Summary" here.
Dedicated meditation is hard at first until you learn to control your Monkey Mind, this is where "Advanced Meditation" comes in handy, especially the Vipassana Meditation technique.
Muscle Relaxation Techniques
Muscle Relaxation is highly advised for people who are in stressful situations. They really help destress (most) people.
This is a whole process and I decided to put a separate page for the Muscle Relaxation Techniques so that it is less confusing.
"Muscle Relaxation Techniques" are usually something you would do on your own compared to the breathing methods listed above.
Synchronizing For Ultra-Orthodox
If your religious beliefs prohibits you from touching someone of the opposite gender unless they are your spouse, please consider this.
Multiple Men And Women ↟↟
Women can "hug" and Breath with other women but I would strongly suggest that all of you hug a tree before you even start your group.
Men: The last paragraph also applies to you as well.
Tree hugging discharges negative energy which people build up, back into the ground (that is why it is commonly called Grounding).
While Tree Hugging discharges the negative energies it does not synchronize the group.
This is why you need to do the synchronized hugging business.
Then before you start your group, hug each other gently as described above and do at least 3 deep SLOW breaths "together" at the same time.
You can also do a group hug where you place your arms and hands across the other persons shoulders as you form a group and do at least 5 slow deep breaths together.
As you can see, there are various options.
TIP: Close your eyes when you do this.
Married Couples ↟↟
This applies for married couples only.
Please use OPTION 1 of the same method I have written for "2 people" here.
Group of Married Couples ↟↟
If you have a group of Married Couples (3 couples minimum), please consider the "Large Group" technique I have explained here.
Women should be seated facing their husbands. This is done so that the men do not become distracted by someone on the opposite side of the circle.
Sit still, eyes closed and focus your attention on opening your heart to receive Ahavat Rabah (Divine Love).
Back to the "Messiah Mantra".
Group of Men ↟↟
This should be done sitting.
Sit in a circle on comfortable cushions.
Place your hands on the other persons shoulders and start the "10 Second Meditation Ping" - then close your eyes and all inhale together and count to 10 slowly.
Then slowly exhale to the count of 10 as well.
Sit still, eyes closed and focus your attention on opening your heart to receive Ahavat Rabah (Divine Love).Do NOT shuckle and sway.
Do this inhale and exhale a minimum of 10 times.
You can actually do the entire meditation in the position if you choose.
It is important to keep your eyes closed and simply visualize the letters as you say them.

Summary
If you thought that you knew how to breath, let me recalibrate your thought process.
From the time the doctor spanked you on your *** until now, most people have never really thought about breathing or even how to improve and magnify their breathing.
If you are looking for more advanced breathing methods, I may suggest some books on this subject called "Pranayama Breathing" techniques.
Pranayama is an ancient breath technique that originates from yogic practices in India. Pranayama involves various methods of controlling your breath using different styles and lengths to attain higher levels of meditation.
