Top pH Intro

What does pH stand for?

pH stands for "potential of hydrogen" (or power of hydrogen).

It is the commonly used scientific measurement which indicates how acidic or alkaline a water-based liquid (or your soil) is.

The pH scale goes from 0 to 14 and measures the concentration of hydrogen ions (H⁺) in a solution or in the soil.

This is why it is always good to wet the soil before you do a pH test to get a more accurate reading - but you should only do this with "Pure Distilled Water" which has a pH of 7 (neutral) so as not to contaminate your test results.

A reverse osmosis (TFC Membrane) water filter may also suffice so long as you pretest and deduct any number above or below 7 from your actual soil test results.

You will not get accurate results using a "cellulose membrane" R/O filter and even worse is if you use a carbon water filter regardless of whether it is GAC or solid carbon.

Test Results?

Acidic: Results below 7 indicate a higher concentration of hydrogen ions.

Alkaline: Results above 7 indicate a lower concentration of hydrogen ions.

Just like the Richter Scale (earthquakes), the pH scale is logarithmic, which means that each whole number step represents a tenfold (10x) change in acidity or alkalinity from the preceeding number.

So for example, a pH of 3.0 is ten times more acidic than a 4.0, and 100 times more acidic than a 5.0.

Most People ↟↟

Most people think (or don't) that growing plants requires soil and water and chemical fertilizers.

However

THE most fundamental requirement for plants to grow and be healthy is that they are planted and grown in the correct pH soil.

I have some common fruit, vegetables and herbs listed below as examples. examples

The pH also affects the soil Biome as well as the how many insects attack your plants.

Unhealthy plants emit a "sick smell" which attracts certain insects and then people think (or don't) that the solution to this problem is more chemicals.

Then their plants look poorly so that then think (or don't) that they need Synthetic Nitrogen to make the plants look healthy, but this is also a delusion and in some cases (such as aphids and friends), certain insects are now attracted to the "doctored" plants and cause even more damage.

Another Stupidity ↟↟

Is where people have naturally acidic soil (for example), and they throw Lime or other alkalizing agents on the soil thinking (or not) that this will somehow magically cause ALL of the soil in their gardens to become the right pH even though in all my years of selling Organics, I only met a few people smart enough to actually get (or do) soil pH testing.

The wrong plants in the wrong soils causes unhealthy plants, poor nutrient values and a decimated soil Biome which then leads to even more unhealthier plants and even less nutrition which converts into sicker people.

Without healthy soil biome, the soil compacts which gives a grown base for mold and BAD fungi, so the people then think (or don't), that they must spray this mold and fungi (because some chemical company scientist told them to do so), which then destroys the which the compacts the soil even more.

I have seen whole farms destroyed from scientific recommendations.

A Solution ↟↟

  1. Start by checking your soils pH.
  2. Then work out which plants or vegetables (etc) can grow in your specific soil pH.
  3. Work out which works best with your soil and plants (this is important).
  4. Go out into the bush and find some leaf litter and have the Mycorrhizal Fungi tested or even better yet, collect some from several different locations where the negative trees and plants do not grow.
  5. Cultivate these Mycorrhizal Fungi in your own "Grow Bin" using one of the following methods below.
  6. Use the JADAM method or the "Aerobic Compost Tea" method to stimulate even greater health in your plants and family.
