Limited Benefits Meditations
If you are doing any of these 4 listed below, then you are basically wasting your time meditating.
These techniques were designed for students who only studied scriptures ALL day and did not have access to modern technological advances.
- Zazen Meditation
- Guided Meditation
- Mindfulness Meditation
- Transcendental Meditation
Let me point out what is wrong with these methods in 2026.
Up until the mid-1900's, most "Monks" had no access to TV or Radio or Newspapers, and most may not have even wanted to have this access.
As such, their main focus would have been contemplative thoughts based on "Vedic Scriptures" or "Esoteric Concepts" or "Zen"
.
This is vastly different to what you experience due to the massive volume of information and interactions you are exposed to on a daily basis, from the Internet, Radio, Movies, Newspapers, TV + general conversations and the worst of all is "Gossip"
.
Plus you need to take into consideration that many of the things you see or hear during the day will play on your mind long after your initial interaction has passed.
In fact, in many monasteries even today, these social communication "mediums" are not allowed.
Even gossip is forbidden in some. + There is a reason that "gossip" is often referred to as The Evil Tongue.
I once read a (supposed) study which claimed that the average (Western) 10 year old was potentially exposed to more information - during their short life - than one of their grandparents was during that grandparents entire lifetime.
 | Consider how much information you take in on a daily basis - directly and subliminally - both audial and visual - even via olfaction. | |
You see, the old Monks never had to put up with "Information Overload" in their lives and thus their main thought processes were directed towards both scriptures and verbal lessons of their day.
This is why meditations that expound following your thoughts (IMO) are a massive genetic waste of time.
So if you are genuinely seeking potential enlightenment, please consider more advanced meditations like "Controlled Meditation"
from the beginning.
This Lifetime ↟↟
You only have this lifetime - so ask yourself why would you waste such a golden opportunity by chasing every useless thought that popped into your head - especially given the amount of junk we are exposed to on a daily basis.
My teacher told me that in modern days, information is like water in the ocean, you can only process a small amount at a time - and you have to filter out the bad stuff first.
He also said that chasing thoughts in our modern era is like going on a journey of 1,000 miles (1,600 Kms) and stopping to examine every tree you see along the way and then inspecting every other tree you see next to the first tree.
Chasing extraneous thoughts is like being a Unicorn dancing in the rain before "The Flood" - instead of getting on the boat.
Please do not be a Unicorn. (Unicorn is allegorical
)
