Top King Kakudmi and Revati

Excerpt from the Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 9 Chapter 3 verses 1-36

You can here or buy the book .

The first part of this deals with someone called "Sukanya" and I am including her "story" because it deals with Human Regeneration and the famous Lake Roop-Kund (and others).

DISCLAIMER This following "Lake RoopKund" section is "speculation" based on what one of my teacher told me. He said that there are several lakes in this area which are "supposed" to be the true "Lake of Regeneration". See the Cyavana Muni story below.

Note:

It should be noted that over time, this "story" either became distorted or it was a Parable to begin with.

King Kakudmi and Revati ascended to BrahmaLoka by extremely advanced meditation and yogic techniques.

There "appears" to be no "comments" on any distractions or "encounters" King Kakudmi and Revati "may" have had on their ascension (or return for that matter).

There is also no mention - that I have found so far - which tells of where King Kakudmi and Revati did their meditation (it would have had to have been meditating somewhere secure and safe for literally millions of years) - purportedly 116 million years according to some sources but this does not mention the times that the "Earth" was "fallow" (empty of humans **).

** Genesis 2:5 "there was No Man to till the field".

Everyone assumes that Genesis 2:5 is linear. What if it is cyclical just like the and others.

Another cyclical example is Hamas (cHamas)

The word actually means violence and murder (despite what most translated bibles say), and in the old testament, just before the catastrophic flood, it was decreed that the people on this world would be terminated because - "The world was full of hamas".

The meaning of hamas is often and usually mistranslated.

Do you honestly think that it is a coincidence that the word hamas is mentioned in the old testament just before a massive catastrophe befell this planet?

Lake Roop-Kund ↟↟

Some sources say that Lake Roop-Kund (AKA Skeleton lake ) in the Himalayas is the lake mentioned in this story and that the UP TO 800 skeletons found in this lake (spanning over 1,000 years) are those belonging to people who stayed in the lake too long while waiting for their bodies to "regenerate".

Subsequently they froze to death (or had heart attacks from the cold).

DNA studies on the skeletons and flesh (yep) shows that most of them were middle-aged adults, aged between 35 and 40.

There were no babies or children. Some of them were elderly women.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The "average" for most people up until the 20th century was 25 - 50 so if the skeletons show that most of the people were 35 - 40, this would make a lot of sense if you lived 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000 years ago.

Some websites will claim that people lived into their 80's but this was the rare few.

Poor nutrition, wild animals, diseases - especially from were rampant in most (if not all) countries even into the 1900's.

There is an old ARMY joke that says, "you may not crap in your own water but there is always "someone" upstream who does".

Even today in 2026 it is estimated that there are "Millions" of Cholera deaths each year around the world.

*** Back to the main story.

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 9 Chapter 3 ↟↟

SB 9.3.1: Sri Sukadeva Gosvami continued: O King, Saryati, another son of Manu, was a ruler completely aware of Vedic knowledge.

He gave instructions about the functions for the second day of the yajna to be performed by the descendants of Angira.

SB 9.3.2: Saryati had a beautiful lotus-eyed daughter named Sukanya, with whom he went to the forest to see the asrama of Cyavana Muni.

SB 9.3.3: While that Sukanya, surrounded by her friends, was collecting various types of fruits from the trees in the forest, she saw within the hole of an earthworm two things glowing like luminaries.

SB 9.3.4: As if induced by providence, the girl ignorantly pierced those two glowworms with a thorn, and when they were pierced, blood began to ooze out of them.

SB 9.3.5: Thereupon, all the soldiers of Saryati were immediately obstructed from passing urine and stool.

Upon perceiving this, Saryati spoke to his associates in surprise.

SB 9.3.6: How strange it is that one of us has attempted to do something wrong to Cyavana Muni, the son of Bhrgu.

It certainly appears that someone among us has polluted this asrama.

SB 9.3.7: Being very much afraid, the girl Sukanya said to her father: I have done something wrong, for I have ignorantly pierced these two luminous substances with a thorn.

SB 9.3.8: After hearing this statement by his daughter, King Śaryāti was very much afraid. In various ways, he tried to appease Cyavana Muni, for it was he who sat within the hole of the earthworm.

SB 9.3.9: King Saryati, being very contemplative and thus understanding Cyavana Muni's purpose, gave his daughter in charity to the sage.

Thus released from danger with great difficulty, he took permission from Cyavana Muni and returned home.

SB 9.3.10: Cyavana Muni was very irritable, but since Sukanya had gotten him as her husband, she dealt with him carefully, according to his mood.

Knowing his mind, she performed service to him without being bewildered.

SB 9.3.11: Thereafter, some time having passed, the Asvini-kumara brothers, the heavenly physicians, happened to come to Cyavana Muni's asrama.

After offering them respectful "respects", Cyavana Muni requested them to give him youthful life, for they were able to do so.

SB 9.3.12: Cyavana Muni said: Although you are ineligible to drink soma-rasa in sacrifices, I promise to give you a full pot of it. Kindly arrange beauty and youth for me, because they are attractive to young women.

SB 9.3.13: The great physicians, the Asvini-kumaras, very gladly accepted Cyavana Muni's proposal.

Thus they told the brahmana, "Just dive into this lake of successful life." [One who bathes in this lake has their desires fulfilled.]

SB 9.3.14: After saying this, the Asvini-kumaras caught hold of Cyavana Muni, who was an old, diseased invalid with loose skin, white hair, and veins visible all over his body, and all three of them entered the lake.

SB 9.3.15: Thereafter, three men with very beautiful bodily features emerged from the lake.

They were nicely dressed and decorated with earrings and garlands of lotuses. All of them were of the same standard of beauty.

SB 9.3.16: The chaste and very beautiful Sukanya could not distinguish her husband from the two Asvini-kumaras, for they were equally beautiful.

Not understanding who her real husband was, she took shelter of the Asvini-kumaras.

SB 9.3.17: The Asvini-kumaras were very pleased to see Sukanya's chastity and faithfulness.

Thus they showed her Cyavana Muni, her husband, and after taking permission from him, they returned to the heavenly planets in their plane.

SB 9.3.18: Thereafter, King Saryati, desiring to perform a sacrifice, went to the residence of Cyavana Muni.

There he saw by the side of his daughter a very beautiful young man, as bright as the sun.

SB 9.3.19: After receiving "respects" from his daughter, the King, instead of offering blessings to her, appeared very displeased and spoke as follows.

SB 9.3.20: O unchaste girl, what is this that you have desired to do?

You have cheated the most respectable husband, who is honored by everyone, for I see that because he was old, diseased and therefore unattractive, you have left his company to accept as your husband this young man, who appears to be a beggar from the street.

SB 9.3.21: O my daughter, who were born in a respectable family, how have you degraded your consciousness in this way?

How is it that you are shamelessly maintaining a paramour?

You will thus degrade the dynasties of both your father and your husband to a hellish life.

SB 9.3.22: Sukanya, however, being very proud of her chastity, smiled upon hearing the rebukes of her father.

She smilingly told him, "My dear father, this young man by my side is your actual son-in-law, the great sage Cyavana, who was born in the family of Bhrgu."

SB 9.3.23: Thus Sukanya explained how her husband had received the beautiful body of a young man.

When the King heard this he was very surprised, and in great pleasure he embraced his beloved daughter.

SB 9.3.24: Cyavana Muni, by his own prowess, enabled King Saryati to perform the soma-yajna.

The Muni offered a full pot of soma-rasa (commonly referred to as the "drink of the gods") to the Asvini-kumaras, although they were unfit to drink it.

Comment

This makes a lot of sense that they were "unfit to drink it..." because they would have been on a special diet beyond common physical ingestion.

SB 9.3.25: King Indra, being perturbed and angry, wanted to kill Cyavana Muni, and therefore he impetuously took up his thunderbolt.

But Cyavana Muni, by his powers, paralyzed Indra's arm that held the thunderbolt.

Comment

This is my personal opinion, but this part of the story regarding "Cyavana Muni" reminds me of Enoch, The Zohar and the Lost Book of Enki.

SB 9.3.26: Although the Asvini-kumaras were only physicians and were therefore excluded from drinking soma-rasa in sacrifices, the demigods agreed to allow them henceforward to drink it.

SB 9.3.27: King Saryati begot three sons, named Uttanabarhi, Anarta and Bhurisena.

From Anarta came a son named Revata.

SB 9.3.28: O Maharaja Pariksit, subduer of enemies, this Revata constructed a kingdom known as Kusasthali in the depths of the ocean.

There he lived and ruled such tracts of land as Anarta, etc. He had one hundred very nice sons, of whom the eldest was Kakudmi.

Comment

the depths of the ocean ???

SB 9.3.29: Taking his own daughter, Revati, Kakudmi went to Lord Brahma in BrahmaLoka, which is transcendental to the three modes of material nature, and inquired about a husband for Revati.

Comment

transcendental???

Zen This

If Kakudmi travelled physically, then we can easily "assume" that there would be a dramatic time variant to Brahmaloka and back.

But what if they (soul) ascended "spiritually"?

How would that work given their physical bodies?

Where would they be kept so that their bodies "survived" the time differential?

Remember that Kakudmi's entire "kingdom" had disappeared by the time he got back.

*** Only a soul ascension would allow them to transcend the three modes of material nature.

SB 9.3.30: When Kakudmi arrived at Brahmaloka, Lord Brahma was engaged in hearing musical performances by the Gandharvas and had not a moment to talk with him.

Therefore Kakudmi waited, and at the end of the musical performances he offered his "respects" to Lord Brahma and thus submitted his long-standing desire.

Comment

Note that the complete timeline is very vague.

Most of you will not understand this question - but WHY was Lord Brahma listening to musical performances by the

What is the significance of this verse?

SB 9.3.31: After hearing Kakudmi's words, Lord Brahma, who is most powerful, laughed loudly and said to Kakudmi: O King, all those whom you may have decided within the core of your heart to accept as your son-in-law have passed away in the course of time.

SB 9.3.32: Twenty seven catur-yugas (CaturYugas) have already passed. Those upon whom you may have decided are now gone, and so are their sons, grandsons and other descendants.

You cannot even hear about their names.

SB 9.3.33: O King, leave here and offer your daughter to Lord Baladeva, who is still present.

He is most powerful.

Indeed, He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose plenary portion is Lord Visnu.

Your daughter is fit to be given to Him in charity.

Comment

This appears to be an oxymoron, on one hand, Lord Brahma is saying that everything the "King" (Raja) knew was long gone and yet "Lord Baladeva is still present".

This statement becomes complicated when you consider that the "King" and Revati still had to leave BrahmaLoka and return back to Earth (if that truly was their original planet).

So allowing for the very long period of time which would have passed on Earth as the King and Revati travelled back "home", surely Lord Baladeva would have also perished?

Unless they are talking about something hidden in these texts?

Let us look deeper.

Lord (Balarama or Balabhadra) is the "older" brother of Krishna.

While Krishna may have manifested "as a person", he also represents what we call in English the Messiah (or Messiah Consciousness).

This should spin your mind I would think.

In Christianity, the "Hidden Messiah" (King David) is depicted as guarding his sheep (similar to Moses in Sinai), but for Hindus, the cow is the sacred animal which is why is depicted as the guardian of cattle. (probably not the Gaur :))

One thing should start to become apparent by now and that is that these "stories" are not just about people per se, they are about generations of people just like is in our generation.

SB 9.3.34: Lord Baladeva is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

One who hears and chants about Him is purified.

Because He is always the well-wisher of all living entities, He has descended with all His paraphernalia to purify the entire world and lessen its burden.

Comment

Like Krishna, Baladeva is depicted as a Messianic figure and thus he represents Supreme Personality of Godhead.

It is important to note that the word represents is a prefix to both Krishna and Baladeva because they reflect the light of the Creator since they are NOT THE Creator per se.

The same is true for the Hebrew .

SB 9.3.35: Having received this order from Lord Brahma, Kakudmi offered "respects" unto him and returned to his own residence.

He then saw that his residence was vacant, having been abandoned by his brothers and other relatives, who were living in all directions because of fear of higher living beings such as the Yaksas.

Comment

This poses a major conundrum given that it clearly states that Kakudmi and Revati were both giants compared to the people alive when they returned.

SB 9.3.36: Thereafter, the King gave his most beautiful daughter in charity to the supremely powerful Baladeva and then retired from worldly life and went to Badarik-ashrama to please Nara-Narayana.
