Gog And Magog
There are 3 parts to this jigsaw.
Since I was a child I can remember the stories about Gog And Magog and how it is this country or that country etc.
When I was studying Hebrew, I learned 2 very important points.
- Some letters are words
- Words can be spelled without Vowels.
Here are 3 quick examples: The letters ה (H) מ (M) ל (L).
- The letter ה (H) may be part of a word or the letter ה may also (and often does) mean another word called "The" when used at the beginning of a word - eg: The house הבית. Sometimes at the end of some words, it gives direction: for example: HaBayitaH הביתה would indicate that someone was "at" home. If someone asked you where are you going, you could also answer HaBayit-H (to the house).
- The letter מ (M) may be part of a word or it may also mean "From" when used at the beginning of a word - eg: From Mars. ממאדים
- The letter ל (L) may be part of a word or when used at the beginning of a word, or it may also mean "To: (direction) - eg: Go To eat לך לאכול where the word "go" לך is actually a word spelled with the Lamed, but To-Eat includes the Lamed at the beginning to give direction or qualifying action..
- There are other letters which do this both as a prefix and a suffix but the 3 above are enough examples. You can read more about the "AlefBet"
here.
So if you have a sense of humor, you may read the word "why" (למה) as To-From-The. (which in itself is confusing)
I have done up a list of Conjugations for the word "Learn"
in Hebrew if you are interested.
This is a simplified version and does not include (nor is it applicable to) all of the conjugations.
Sons Of Light ↟↟
Another phrase I also heard (strangely) often was about the "Sons of Light" fighting the "sons of darkness".
Yet no one could explain who or what the "Sons Of Light"
were.
Here is a great secret.
The "Sons of Light" are those who have been given some of the first Light of Creation.
This is a very special Light as it says in "Genesis 1:3".
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֖ים יְהִי-א֑וֹר וַֽיְהִי-אֽוֹר
How It Is Written ↟↟
הדוגמה בלבד
An introduction for beginners.
Another interesting point about Hebrew is that it can (often but not always) be written with or without Vowel points (called Nikudot).
For example - and I am not saying that all of these are right - what I am trying to show you is that there are more variables than just the (English) letter O to the story.
The first 2 are correct but the rest are just examples.
Examples Only (הדוגמה בלבד)
- גוג Gog without any vowels.
- גוֹֹג with Vav + Cholam vowel.
- גג without the middle Vav.
- גֹג WithOut Vav and only the Cholam.
- גאג where the Alef represents the "OO" sound instead of the Vav.
- גאֹג where the Alef represents the "OH" sound instead of the Vav - by using the Cholam vowel.
An example of where the Alef is (in this case associated) with the "Oh" sound is in the verse "And God said let there be light and there was light".
The letter Alef has no sound of its own and whilst most people assign the "A or AH" sound to it, it may also be controlled by any other vowel point directly associated to it.
For example, the word אלהים Elohim, starts with the letter Alef but is pronounced as EL and not Al.
וַיֹאמֶר אלהים יהי-אור ויהי-אור

Simple Summary ↟↟
GOG
גוג Gog refers to the Light.
מגוג MaGog refers to the darkness.
This is because darkness is a retraction of light and light per se existed first.
And the word MaGog actually means FROM GOG.
I explain more about this and the missing vowels here on the "7 Days Conundrum"
page.
The answer is not something mystical, it is right there in front of you.
You just need to learn the "actual" Hebrew language and not translate your version from someone else's version. Makes sense huh?
