You need to look at the bad as well as the good, because if you do not recognize the bad, then it will continue unless it is rectified.

Top Countess Elizabeth Bathory

Entrer Elizabeth Bathory

Countess Elizabeth Bathory (Báthori Erzsébet 1560 - 1614 CE) was a Hungarian Noblewoman who loaned the Catholic church money to fight their wars but when the time came to repay her the massive amount of money she had lent them, suddenly the church proclaimed that she was a vampire and a witch and they inquisited (inquisitional) and tortured her, then incarcerated her until her death.

Until the time for the repayment, Elizabeth Bathory was considered a close ally and friend of the catholic church.

It was alledged that she "bathed" in the blood of 650 young women in order to stay young.

Strange how these accounts suddenly appeared when it was time to repay her.

Most of the stuff you read online is fiction, but if you ask many older Hungarians (as I did), they will tell you a different story from what you read on most websites etc.

Recent studies suggests that apart from not repaying the money, the accusations created a public spectacle to destroy her family's influence in the region - her uncle was the King of Poland.

There are a few parts of this story which does not make any sense to me - and one of them is that all of her "servants" were killed, but she was allowed to live (after being tortured) imprisoned until her death.

Also, wikipedia claims that Bathory and her cohorts were charged for 80 counts of murder and were convicted - but yet the local legend claims that 650 women and girls were killed by her. So is it 80 or 650?

Top Gracia Mendes Nasi

There may have been a reason why the catholic church choose to incarcerate Countess Elizabeth Bathory and that reason was "the one that got away".

AKA: Gracia Mendes Nasi.

  • Richest woman in the world.
  • Banking House of Mendez.
  • Born 1510 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Gracia Mendes Nasi was born Beatriz de Luna Miques in Lisbon, Portugal in 1510 to a family of crypto-Jews (AKA Marranos).

Many Marranos also moved to the South of England where the weather is warmer. Smile

Her (eventual) Hebrew name was Hannah Gracia Nasi (חַנָּה גַּרְשִׁיָּה נָשִׂיא) and she was referred to as "La Señora" (the Lady).

The English equivalent of "La Señora" (at that time period) would have been "My Lady".

In the 16th century (1500's) she became "possibly" the richest woman in the known world.

Her banking empire was so massive that the Kings of France and Spain owed her money.

Despite her massive wealth, her life was in constant danger from the Spanish Inquisition.

You see, her biggest problem at that time was that she was Jewish so unless she converted to catholicism, she could be murdered or expelled.

Murder and stealing the victims wealth was considered quite acceptable in those days. Kind of like farting, everyone knew that it happened but no one wanted to ask any questions.

La Señora Gracia didn't just survive, she used her enormous brain and her financial leverage to fight back and save thousands of Jewish lives.

She effectively turned her trade routes into an underground railroad, smuggling 1,000's of Jewish refugees over the Alps and into the Ottoman held "protectorate" lands (which had NO name at that time), which we now call Israel.

She also funded the printing and production of the Ferrara Bible to help Marranos (commonly called Conversos because they were forced to convert) remember the Hebrew they were forced to forget.

Burning People Alive ↟↟

A favorite catholic passtime which they did to everyone equally, Chirstions, Jews, Infidels et al.

So when the catholic Pope started burning Jews at the stake in Italy, she organized the first international Jewish boycott in history, choking off trade to Papal ports.

Pope Paul III launched the Portuguese Inquisition in 1536.

Around 1549 she moved to the city of Ferrara (between Bologna and Venice) where she adopted the name of "Nasi" (נָשִׂיא) which is a Hebrew term commonly referred to as meaning "president," "prince," or "exalted one".

However, the "root" of the word Nasi is "Noon Sin Aleph" {נ ש א} which means "To Lift Up" which is what she did for many thousands of persecuted Jews by helping them make "Aliah or Aliyah" {עליה} and Aliyah means "To Go Up" or "ascend".

The Jewish escape network was known as "el camino dificil", "the difficult trail" and many died crossing the Alps.

Gracia even tried to build a Jewish city / State in Tiberias (modern day Israel), 300 years before Herzl.

She Got Away ↟↟

Gracia Nasi died in 1569 (aged 58-59) in the city of Constantinople, (Ottoman Empire) and is buried in Tiberias, Israel.

So you see, the catholic church had a very powerful, influential and exceedingly rich person in their hands and she out-smarted them all - and to rub salt into the wounds, she was a woman and I suspect that this damage to the brotherhood's male egos has never been assuaged.

Back To Liz ↟↟

So when Elizabeth Bathory came along, they would not have wanted to let her make another laughing stock of them (again).

So they locked her up even after all of the help she had provided them - and then they did not have to repay her anything.

Basically murder by mental deterioration - and then you have to consider that male jailers were not know to be gallant (.Fr) when it came to women prisoners.

Top Trivia

Nasi in Hebrew has nothing to do with Nasi in Malaysian (Indonesian) which means "Rice".

Same as a caterpillar tractor has nothing to do with a pre-pubescent butterfly.
