Reverse Breathing Meditation
The Reverse Breathing Technique is where you say the mantra as you exhale (breath OUT) and you can also say the mantra as you inhale (breath in).
There are 2 easy ways to do this.
- 1. Softly - you whisper the mantra.
- 2. You physically sound out the words using you Larynx (voice box) as you breath in and as you breath out.
1) Whisper the mantra as you breath out, then whisper the mantra as you breath in.
This takes a small amount of practice but it allows you to utilize the silent mantra twice as much - instead of waiting for the inhale.
I like doing this method when my wife is asleep and I have to work late.
2) This is a very difficult technique and MAY damage your Larynx (voice box) so it is not recommended.
The "chords" in your voice box are trained to focus air "making" sound one way (satu sahaja ***) and when you reverse this, you get a high pitched sound which is also painful.
It also takes a lot of practice.
For anyone who wants to try this technique, start off in seconds and not minutes or longer as this can be very painful and IF you over do this, you may damage or even lose your voice.
SUMMARY
If you want to do this dual mantra breathing technique, please consider only doing the "whisper" method.
Polyphonic Overtone Singing
If you think that saying the Mantra is difficult on the inhale and again on the exhale, consider trying to do Polyphonic Overtone Singing.
Polyphonic Overtone Singing involves singing 2 notes at the same time.
Imagine doing a mantra using 2 tones at the same time?
Polyphonic Overtone Singing requires a lot of practice but a rare few can do this. Click here for an example of "Polyphonic Singing"
