What is best you ask?

I once asked my teacher, "What is best, Prayer Or Meditation??"

This was his response.

"If you are religious, do prayer."

"However, if you are not religious, do meditation - and like prayer - you must do this with absolute intent."

"First find the "Mantra" which resonates with you the most - and remember that you will eventually transcend this mantra, and then focus on this mantra until you feel that you have plateaued." (when you reach a static stage or state of little or no change.)

"Next step is to find the next higher mantra which calls to you."

He also said that I should "choose a single mantra to start with and then progress up to sentences as I became more adjusted".

He said that "intent and love were the most important aspects of both".

My Story

When I was young, I was not overly religious because I had a lot of "God Only" questions which No One could answer - plus my negative experiences in the orphanage did not help contribute to a glowing recommendation of the religious structure.

There were at least several questions no one could answer.

1. Why did God create humans (all they want to do is fight and kill)?***
2. Why did the church teach us that the Jews killed Jesus when it clearly declares in the bible that the Romans did the deed?
3. Whch church does God go to?
4. The bible says "You shall not worship idols of stone and wood" yet the catholic church is filled with these icons.

*** When I was born, WWII was still very fresh in people's minds, war movies and killing (American) Indians movies were all the rage, the Korean war and nuclear war were constantly in the news.

WWII stories were very common and what the nazis did to my father was next gen insane.

And yet, this was all normal in those days and none of us needed to pay brazillions of dollars for therapy sessions.

I became interested in meditation when I was 14 and I got seriously into meditations when I was 18 and I actually paid over 1 weeks wages to learn Transcendental Meditation (and what a waste of money that was).

What Is My Choice Now?

My choice now is to use prayers as mantras.

I have used Vedic mantras, Hebrew mantras and Positive affirmations as mantras and my personal conclusions are that it is your "intent and sincerety" which dictates your end results.

If you meditate without love and sincerety, then your are simply saying words and making noises.

This may sound harsh but I am trying to show you that you are capable of a much higher experience if you apply your true essence to your meditations and prayers.
