Gematria - A Simple Explanation
This is a very simple overview of a very complex subject.
Gematria is a system which allows you to see parallel numbers but in different formats which then allows you to see hidden content and meanings - where applicable. See the Yosi - Joseph - example below.
For example 135 has the same numerical value (in Gematria) as 531.
1 + 3 + 5 == 9 and the same applies with 5 + 3 + 1 ==9. See another "Name" example below.
In Gematria, you have the option of "adding" the Supernal number 1 which represents The Creator (in essence only), and this means that if the total numerical value of a word is 59 but the "lesson" is associated with the number 60, you are permitted to add the Supernal 1 to ascend (if you will) to the higher lesson meaning within the now completed word.
Please bear that in mind as we proceed.
Quick Side Note ↟↟
If you glance at this numbering system, you would be mistaken if you thought that it was boreing.
I once attended a wedding at the Olam Ahuzah in Jerusalem in 1988 where a Rabbi started giving a speech about Gematria.
It was supposed to last several minutes with blessings for the bride and groom, but he was so entertaining that the people kept asking for more and more until almost 1 hour later, the head chef had to go and ask him (politely) to finish or we would be there all night.
The chef actually told the people that he refrozen their deserts twice so they should eat it before it need a third snap freeze experience.
Different Methods ↟↟
Also, there are Different Methods for calculating Gematria
These 3 main methods of Gematria (וְגִמַּטְרִיָּאוֹת) are:
** It should also be noted that if you are doing Divine Gematria,, then the words and structure may change for different rules - which are way beyond this website.
For example, the Hebrew letter Hei (ה) can be spelled Hei-Yud (הי), Hei-Hei (הה), or Hei-Alef (הא), with each different combination representing a different aspect of Divine influence.
And then there are the even more mystical levels where the Nikudot may be included in the permutations.
1) Milui (padding) System ↟↟
Milui System (In modern Hebrew, miluy (מילוי) means filling, padding, or refilling.) - This system is where each consonant letter is spelled out and the Final letters (called

| ף | Fey Sofit | 800 | 80 |
| ץ | Tzadi Sofit | 900 | 90 |
Instead of the word aleph being a single letter, it now becomes the letters which make up the name of the letter. אלף, thus it now becomes "Alef (1) + Lamed (30) + Fey Sofit (80)" is equal to the value of
This becomes problematic when you consider the spelling of words in the Sephardic verses Askanazic spellings (based on pronunciation).
So letters like Taf (Tav) or Daled (Dalet) or Bet (Bayit - Beyis) etc become problematic as stated above.
2) Mispar Katan (Small Number) System ↟↟
Mispar Katan System - This is where the zeroes are removed: Yod (י value is 10) now becomes 1, Kaf (כּ value of 20) now becomes 2, Lamed (ל value of 30) now becomes 3 and even the hundreds lose their Zeros so Koof (ק value of 100) now becomes 1 and the same applies for Resh, Shin and Taf - they all lose their zeros.
It is the "Mispar Katan System" which allows us to elevate the word EMES to EMET.
This is a short example only and the same principal applies to all of the Hebrew letters - we will start at the letter Yod which equals the value of 10.

Truth == א מ ת ↟↟
| The word for Truth in Hebrew is (Emet) Aleph+Mem+Taf. |
| א מ ת |
There appears to be a problem in that Alef+Mem+Shin are not EMET (Alef+Mem+Taf) but this may be overcome if you add the Supernal 1 to the letter SHIN using the method #2 (Mispar Katan System - מספר קטן) listed above where the zeros have been removed. Mispar Katan means "small number". |
Trivia Du Jour ↟↟
The 3 Mothers are represented by the letters Alef, Mem, and Shin which correspond to are (Alef) air, (Mem) water, and (Shin) fire and what is most interesting about these elements is that the word "Heavens" in Hebrew is Shamayim (שמים) which - if you add the Supernal 1 in the form of the Letter Alef (א), you can get a combination of Esh and Mayim or Fire and Water. (אש+מים)
What you do not see (or know) is that in Kabbalah you have something called Letter Folding which is where one letter can be folded into a second letter IF it represents the first letter - and in this case, the letter Mem (even though one is Mem and the second is Mem Sofit.
Shamayim has 2 x letter
Why is this important you ask?

Yod (י) which equals 10 + (אמש).
Let us see if you can put these pieces together.
3) The Atbash System ↟↟
The Atbash System - Atbash is a system in which the first letter of the AlefBet (Aleph / Alef) is replaced by the last letter (Taf / Tav), the second letter (Bet) by the second-to-last letter (Shin), and so on.
When you switch the Aleph with Taf, You would now have have the letter "Aleph" with a reversed value of 400 (instead of 1).
The name AtBash comes from conjoining the first 2 letters and the last 2 letters in the Hebrew AlefBet.
These are Alef + Taf and Bet + Shin.
The earliest source for gematria (וְגִמַּטְרִיָּאוֹת) is the "

One Gematria Example ↟↟
This is one quick example of how Gematria works.
In the olden days, as now, it was and is forbidden to say Gods name in vain.
So instead of saying the name "Elohim" (אלֹהים), it was commonly accepted that the word "Yosi" (יוֹסִי) (AKA: Joseph in English) would be substituted instead - because they both add up to 86. (The infamous 86).
This is because Elohim is spelt without the Vav.
Clever Gematria example:
When the Book Of Esther was written, it was written with hidden meanings and one of these was the Taf, Shin, Zayin connundrum.
To make this even more interesting - apart from the fact that it was written over 2,400 years before the event repeated, there is a hidden Gematria in the
Trivia
In the 10 Sephirot, the attribute of Gevurah - is imbued with Elohim - because this is the attribute of destruction.
More Trivia
The attribute Gevurah (גְּבוּרָה) adds up to 216 and this is backwards.
Gevurah is the attribute of destruction but IF you reverse 216 and add the Supernal "1" of HaShem, you get 613. This tells you how to stop the 216 from happening.
Is this what Nikola Tesla "hinted at" about 3, 6 and 9 and the universe?

- Krita Yuga == 1,440,000 "Earth" years.
- Treta Yuga == 1,080,000 "Earth" years.
- Dvapara Yuga == 720,000 "Earth" years.
- Kali Yuga == 432,000 "Earth" years.
R == Reductions
Example 1: 3x6 = 18 and 18 is 8+1 and this equals 9.
Example 2: 1440000 (remove zeros) == 144 which = 1+4+4 and this equals 9.
- 1,440,000 reduces down to 9
- 1,080,000 reduces down to 9
- 720,000 reduces down to 9
- 432,000 reduces down to 9
9 == 3 x 3 and (3x3 is only two 3's which equals 6)
- 3x3 = 9
- 3x6 = 18 which reduces (R) to 9
- 3x9 = 27 which reduces (R) to 9
- 6x9 = 54 which reduces (R) to 9
- 9x9 = 81 which reduces (R) to 9
All of these also reduce (R=) down to 9.
- 3x18 = 54 R = 9
- 6x18 = 108 R = 9
- 9x18 = 162 R = 9
- 3x27 = 81 R = 9
- 6x27 = 162 R = 9
- 9x27 = 243 R = 9
- 3x54 = 162 R = 9
- 6x54 = 324 R = 9
- 9x54 = 486 R = 9
- 3x81 = 243 R = 9
- 6x81 = 486 R = 9
- 9x81 = 729 R = 9
