What Are The Chakras?
Summary
On this page we will deal with 3 aspects of Chakras.
These are a lot more complex than most people realize. I have tried to include and briefly cover most of the associated subjects on this page.

What Does Chakra Mean? ↟↟
Chakra (चक्र) is Sanskrit for circle / cycle / wheel.
Some Buddhist texts mentioning five chakras, while Hindu sources reference six or seven chakras. 
Seven chakras are what most Westerners are familiar with.
Early Sanskrit texts speak of them both as meditative visualizations combining flowers and mantras and as physical entities in the body. This information is found in the Concise "Dictionary of Indian Philosophy" Sanskrit.
Flowers were use because it gave people a physical representation to focus on, just as we assign "anthropomorphic" entities to star clusters (for example, star/zodiac signs plus others) or we use a "Logo" to define a company brand.
These change names over time - for example the deity Inanna (Sumerian) is purported to also be known as Ishtar (Akkadian), and Astarte (Canaanite) and often associated with Isis (Egypt), Tanit (Carthage), Aphrodite (Greece), and Venus (Rome). Remember that to most of the ancients, Venus was seen as a star.
The Pleiades of today was also know as The Seven Sisters (Greece), The Cedars Of Lebanon ( "Khemet" {Ku'Mat}), Ma'on מָעוֹן (Hebrew) + many other names.

This is why it is critical to research more than 1 source for information.
Symbols ↟↟
It has been suggested that the flowers were used as a physical "mnemonic" symbol or representation of the Chakras - like a modern day logo - for people to remember each Chakra. Especially when you understand that Chakras are not flowers.
If you want a closer color visualization of the Chakras, try remembering how the colors of a rainbow look. Now multiply that by a thousand and add vibrance, love, energy, color and density - much closer.
Rainbows are a good starting point and they visually transcend the 1 dimensional colors used in pictures. (see below)
Why Do Chakras Have Colors?
Chakras are associated with energy and color.
Each color vibrates at a different frequency.
Each color represents divine energy which is imbued into the body to help it be healthy - both physically and spiritually.
Damage or weakness to any Chakra equates to damage to the body.
There is a saying I was taught when I first started studying alternative medicine and it says, "Just 1 unhealthy cell can eventually damage the whole body".
Healing the Chakras has been shown to help heal the body and mind and something which I have seen personally.
Important Note Here
"Chakra Healing" "others" and Chakra Healing yourself are 2 different things.
Chakra Healing "yourself" works best if the person has a healthy nutritious diet.
Chakra Healing can help many people but it cannot create what is not there.
Chromotherapy
Did you know that there are books written about the subject of color healing - it is called "Chromotherapy" .
Color + Memory +
Color is beneficial for healing and also for memory.
According to the American National Institutes of Health ( ).
Research suggests that colors can produce a higher level of attention and has been shown to be effective in increasing memory performance.
Therefore, it can be concluded that colors have the tendency to capture better attention levels, and thus, "better memory". 
Your body and mind and soul are all energy vibrating at specific frequencies.
Put simply - Color is Energy vibrating at specific frequencies.
So your Zen question of the day should be at least: "What is the purpose of color that it needs these frequencies"?
This question is based on the premise that you understand we live in what can only be described as a "Holographic Universe" (from our current physical perspective and regardless of how "real" reality may seem to each of us).
FYI: (most) People who have died and come back ("NDEs" ) will understand this better than those who have never died, because when you die, everything you think is real vanishes (as I can personally attest to - twice).
You are transported to a "magical world" of color, intelligence and Love at levels your human brain cannot even begin to comprehend.
Even on the "other side" Color affects us in more ways that most people realize.
Why talks about NDE's?
It is very important that you understand color is not 1 dimensional as we see on this side "of the veil" (of death).
Color on the other side is radiant, full of life, warmth, intelligence and Love (+++) and it is only when you understand this about color, that you can truly start to use the real power of Chakra meditation or Chakra healing.
Moods
Other research shows that different vibrations (frequencies) are known to affect our mood, heart rate, alertness, and brain function.
Synthetic female hormones
These "color" moods are very different from mood swings caused by Synthetic female hormones.
Synthetic female hormones can also dramatically affect babies and small children and there is an epidemic of "confused" children in the world today (IMO) mainly due to over exposure of these chemicals.
But there is some hope to remove these from our bodies, see links just below.
Synthetic female hormones in plastics and also inhestec into farm animals (to soften their meat), also affects mood and harmony, but there is a way to Detox many of these endocrine disruptive chemicals like BP-A (Bisphenol-A) out of your system.
You need to detox Synthetic Hormones and also Micro Plastics out of your body because the synthetic hormones are in the Micro-plastics and these MicroPlastics are small enough to get into your cells where the chemicals continue to leech out.

Drunk Tank Pink ↟↟
"How can color help me calm down when I am stressed?", you may ask.
In fact, there is actual evidence showing that the color pink [for example] can dramatically reduce aggression.
The color "pink" will not remove the synthetic hormones but at least you will have a calmer space to work in while you think out your problems.
"Meditation" also helps calm the brain (FYI).
In the book "Drunk Tank Pink" it explains how colors, words, and symbols unknowingly alter the way you think, behave, and perceive reality.
The title "Drunk Tank Pink" is in reference to the discovery that when jail Cells are painted pink it reduces aggression and violence among inmates.
Better Sleep Colors ↟↟
Warm hues of red, orange, and yellow are better for preparing the mind and body for sleep. In fact, some experts recommend switching to warm lighting.
"Better Sleep Colors" 
"Conversely" , blue and white lights keep your brain more active. This makes sense when you consider white sunlight and blue sky are associated with daylight and waking hours
The "pink" and "blue" examples above may explain why baby girls are much more placid than baby boys (generally speaking).
In fact color affects many aspects of our lives, from "Sleep Colors" through to improving sales by using "Color Psychology" .
Calming Patients or Clients ↟↟
Lets say that you have an upset or agitated subject?
How do you help placate them?
These are 2 techniques I found useful.
- Have a picture of a pink Towel with a BIG smiley face directly behind me on the wall.
- Have a pink waiting room.
Having the pink towel picture behind you, keeps the pink in their visual view and the smiley face can subliminally helps to convert their negative energy into a more positive one.
{1} Get the subject to sit down and slowly do 3 - 5 deep breaths.
This is a good "hands-off" method which will work for many people.
{2} Back to back
You need to use a lot of personal discretion . It is suggested that you do not do this.

Enhancing Your Chakra Meditation
Chakra meditation should only be attempted after you have become proficient at regular Mantra meditation.
I also strongly suggest that you start with
"Controlled Meditation" first.
This is because you need to be balanced in your heart and brain and centered in your solar plexus before you start "working" on or with your Chakras.
TIP:
If you want to buy a book to learn how to harmonize your Sky "Chi" energy with your Earth "Chi" energy, I suggest that you Buy the books.
Once you have read your books several times, I would then suggest you find a VERY experienced teacher. This is so that you can hopefully get answers to question not in books and for better quality guidance.

You are very lucky, these days you can get good tips online from YouTube. When I started learn back in 1978, I had to catch a taxi to the train station, and then walk almost 15 minutes to class. Approx 90 + minutes one way.
You can also learn how to start these "Chi" exercises on YouTube -- but you will not get personally applicable lessons from YouTube videos. Still, it is a great resource.
Why Learn Controlled Meditation?
Controlled Meditation helps you be more in control of your (general) environment.
NOTE that I am not recommending that you do this but, one example I can give is that you learn to be more in control in extreme situations. If you are doing proper Controlled Meditation.
In my travels around the world, on more than several occasions, people have tried to kill me and it was my composure and confidence that allowed me to survive.
When you are a single person and you travel to some of the most remote places on Earth looking for truth and answers, you do not always meet nice people along the way.
One of the things I did what is not considered normal, was to go into the Sinai desert and fast and meditate for 2 weeks.
Another time I was in the Judaean Desert and some bedouin followed me at night trying to locate me in the dark. I could hear their voices and I did not panic - and also I had prepared for just such an event by stockpiling a heap of fist sized rocks which I introduced to these nocturnal visitors.
I have had people come at me with knives as well and being able to think calmly always leads to the same result.
Even in some of the cities I have lived in, I have encountered these negative people.
If I had panicked or shown fear, I am 101% sure that I would be permanently dead by now.
I am not advocating that you do what I did but at some stage in your life, you may encounter extremely negative people and if you are a pile of Jello (Jelly), then you will have almost no chance of survival.
When most people attack you, they are counting on "your fear" to literally paralyse you so that they can take advantage of the situation and you.
Controlled Meditation
By learning Controlled Meditation and practicing "Controlled Meditation" daily, you learn to be more in control of your mind and this may just save your life one day - especially if you are a Prepper.
Reason #2 is Kundalini ↟↟
Another reason would be in regards to activating your "Kundalini" .
This is because if you accidently activate your Kundalini, you will really need to be grounded mentally and emotionally first.
Activating the Kundalini is way beyond the scope of this resource. In part because you should have an experienced teacher with you in case you have questions or problems. 
Kundalini opening experiences can often be very dramatic especially for Westerners who "skip ahead" of all of the important lessons which lead up to this experience.
Soul Ascension ↟↟
Another reason is if you want to go to the "Akashic Records" or do some other kind of "Soul Ascension".
If you are not mentally prepared for what you encounter along the way like the "Guardians", then your ascension experience will be very unpleasant. (Very)
The Divine Presence ↟↟
While this encounter may be very rare, it does happen and I speak from personal experience.
When (IF) you meet The Divine Presence, it can blow out all of your mental fuses unless you are mentally prepared for such an event.
Controlled Meditation offers you the opportunity to be calm when having this experience.
However:
If you are arrogant, egotesticle (male) or egotistical (female), then having one of these encounters without the proper mental training could literally send your mind into orbit.
In this situation, doing Controlled Meditation will not mean much if your vanity destroys your mind.
Before You Begin Chakra Meditation
Below I outline some of the techniques and a few ways of not only healing your Chakras, but also utilizing the Chakras as an assist to help in the healing the Chakras of others.
Chakra meditation is done by focusing on each Chakra point and visualizing each specific color becoming stronger color and bigger.
This could be likened to adding colored water to a small fish bowl.
Visually see each Chakra growing and from your heart Chakra, send it love and light.
 | As I stated above, you need to be "proficient" in regular mantra meditation before you can be proficient in Chakra meditation. |  |
As you focus on each Chakra in turn, visualize yourself going into that specific Chakra and immerse yourself in that color and mentally focus on making it grow stronger. (immerse means just like when you jump into a pool of water)
Then feel yourself becoming "As One" with the Chakra. Stay like this until you feel time to move onto the next Chakra.
When you first get started, usually 1 or 2 minutes per Chakra is all you need if you are doing it correctly.
When you are experienced at Chakra meditation, you will intrinsically know when it is the right time to move on when you feel you have reached a plateau (also called a tabletop or mesa) of energy.
Advanced
When you can visualize clearly and you are experienced at "Chakra Healing" , you can stay on each Chakra for longer than 1 or 2 minutes.
When you are experienced, you will feel that you have reached a certain level and appear to be unable to go any further. This is called the "plateau".
Progress on to the next level when you have reached the plateau - because you need to build up your mental support structure or you may find out just how fragile your mind really is.
Supplementation ↟↟
As part of your preparation, you may like to consider taking some mineral supplements.
The Reason
I have found that taking these has helped me greatly to stay grounded and focused.
Did you know that Sugar Removes Many Minerals from the body and brain, and when these are removed from the brain, it may cause "Meditation Sickness". 
This is a real problem for many "Monks" who are on extremely restrictive diets as they strive to reach much higher spiritual levels.

Mineral supplementation also helps you stop "Meditation Headaches". But this usually only affects people who are on extremely restricted diets.
Basic Chakra Meditation
This is where "Creative visualization " will come in handy.
In fact, "Creative visualization" is the key.
You simply visualize each Chakra as a small circle, then see it opening and "feel" (in your minds eye) that "Chakras" filling up with its respective color.
Continue to see the circle growing bigger and bigger and filling up with more color until both the circle and the color completely fill your entire mind.
When you feel that each Chakra is "full" of the applicable light color, simply visualize the Chakra closing and move onto the next one.
This is in itself just one healing method.
IMPORTANT NOTE
It is very important that you learn to control each individual Chakra before progressing on to the next Chakra.
Learning to control each Chakra is often quite an amazing experience in its own right.
Moving the Chakra Energy ↟↟
WARNING ↟↟
This may cause stress to people who are not grounded or balanced.
So it is highly recommended that you become very proficient in "Controlled Meditation" for a long time before you start moving your Chakra colors.
The "Kundalini" energy "is" very intense for most people.
In my first "Kundalini" experience, it felt like a steel rod moving up my spine. The energy can be extremely powerful.
So IF you become afraid, simply STOP and try again in a few weeks.
Every time you become fearful, simply stop for several weeks and then start again.
This tells you that your mind is not yet strong enough.
EXTRA NOTE ↟↟
If, for whatever reason, you have any kind of negative experience, please STOP this meditation and try again in 2 or 3 weeks.
Do regular "Controlled Meditation" for those few "in between" weeks.
Color Therapy Is Real
This will come as a shock to most people but Color Therapy Is Real. It is called ChromoTherapy.

Who (re)Discovered Chromotherapy?
In 1933, an Indian scientist Dinshah P. Ghadiali published "The Spectro Chromemetry Encyclopedia", which is about color therapy, plus (2) there is also The Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Hinduism if you want a deeper understanding of meditation and Chakras.

Ghadiali claimed to have discovered why and how the different colored rays have various therapeutic effects on human health.
Advanced Chakra Meditation
With "Advanced Chakra Meditation" you need to start visualizing the colors as living entitles and if you want an even higher experience, then you need to see these Chakra Colors as part of the living God energy which sustains all of Creation.
If you do not understand this - or - you disagree with my assessment, then this is not the rght meditation for you and that is because when you do have the experience of actually visualizing the Chakras as they exist, you will not be mentally prepared for the emotional experience which accompanies your visualizations. (no sugar coating)
Can I Use Regular Colored Lights?
Yes and No.
You have to remember 2 important points.
Point 1 ↟↟
Compared to the iridescent energy of the living Chakras, using a light bulb (or equivalent light source), will never be as accurate or as delicate as the living colors of the actual Chakras.
This is why meditation and Creative visualization is a much smarter way to see the real Chakras in real color.
Creative visualization is the key which starts the vehicle (your mind) you need in order to get to its destination.
Light from a bulb is basically One Dimensional , as each beam of light moves out in 1 single direction - and it does not project warmth, intelligence or love.
Start with the (Red) base Chakra and envisage (see) the color red as a glowing ball. Completely focus on that until it becomes a living iridescent entity.
Into each Chakra, you need to project incandescent love and light.
Then move onto the next Chakra, etc etc.
The Key.
THE key to Advanced Chakra Meditation is to see the Chakras as "living" colors with warmth, love, intelligence and compassion.
You can use your "love" for someone special in your life (or God) as your first step towards achieving this goal.
Just think about that person as you visualize each Chakra and FEEL your heart opening as you do so.
Outside
Try and do this meditation outside on grass if possible as this will help dissipate any stored negative energy you may have accumulated - especially if you wear static producing clothing.
Point 2 ↟↟
You must be grounded both in advanced meditation as well as physically to the Earth. You can do this simply by touching a living tree or sitting on grass for 5 - 10 minutes.
There are many books on the health benefits of Grounding (AKA Earthing). I suggest that you become more informed about this important health subject.

More Advanced ↟↟
When you have mastered the techniques above, then you are ready to start "feeling" the vibrations of each Chakra.
Meditate on these vibrations getting stronger and stronger.
METHOD
You must do this for the same amount of time for each Chakra.
This way you can slowly build unity.
If you just focus on 1 Chakra more than others, you will create an imbalance. This is not good.
How Will I Know? ↟↟
How iwll I know when to stop?
If you are not taking any kind of drugs and your mind is clear, then you need to "connect" with your body because your body will tell you when to stop.
You can "think: of this event like when you pour water into an empty cup and then "suddenly" it is full and overflows.
Feel the overflow and then you will know when to stop.
Just getting started?
If you are just getting started, please consider limiting your Chakra meditation sessions to 1 - 3 minutes per Chakra.
However
If you are taking mind numbing medications, then I suggest that you dedicate 3 - 5 minutes per Chakra.
Chakra Healing Others ↟↟
I would strongly suggest that you do not try healing others if your own Chakras are deficient.
This is because you need to become a "conduit" through which the Light from The Creator flows and you must be strong in your own energy before you can do this.
